endless iconic f1 moments - lap of the gods

ayrton senna wins the 1993 european grand prix. the race was held at donington park in torrential rain. the williams cars of alain prost and damon hill had locked out the front row in qualifying. senna qualified fourth, but dropped to fifth at the start behind michael schumacher and karl wendlinger. it did not take long for him to demonstrate his phenomenal wet weather ability, however. he overtook schumacher at turn three. at the next corner, he passed wendlinger. by turn seven, he had caught the williams of hill. at the penultimate corner, he took prost. he ended the lap in first place. he won the race by over a minute, having lapped every car except hill in second place. his first lap has since been called the ‘greatest single lap in f1 history’.
