me to nirei after reading it matters where (you are)

nirei and endo is such untapped source ngl, thank you for opening my eyes to them! like whenever they are interacting, i want to scream at endo to get away from my baby, but at the same time i can't help but feel kinda bad for endo??? what can i say, his obsession with takiishi and his pathetic behaviour has grown on me like a parasitic fungus.

i was on edge the entire lake scene. i genuinely thought that endo was going to kill nirei, but he didn't seem to mean it??? or is he lying because he changed his mind. because from nirei's pov, the hand around his throat seemed so intentional!

also i really love how you write sakusuonirei. like canonically, sakura and suo get so protective of nirei, so i wonder how insane they will go if endo threatens to throw nirei off a building and ACTUALLY DROWN HIM!!

love the sprinkles of sugishita/kiryu/class 1-1 interactions with nirei!! i feel like a starved victorian orphan cause there are barely any fics about this :(

and my poor baby nirei wondering why his classmates are treating him so kindly (it's human decency and HE IS THEIR FRIEND), when he thinks he's not worth the energy. i like how he's having this horrendous self-hating monologue in his head, and then you can see sakura and suo foaming at the mouth and about to start clawing the walls at endo daring to hurt nirei HAHAH

Sakura has never been one to care for others, or at least that’s what he thinks of himself.

But as he spends more and more time around Nirei and Suo, he finds it so hard to keep up the uncaring facade that he had built up over the years. Especially when the other two seem to care about him in a way that he has never had anyone care about him before.

However, even if Sakura wanted to admit he cared about them, he wasn’t sure how.

Actions do speak louder than words though, particularly to a guy like Sakura, so maybe it’s best he finds another way to express what he feels without saying anything.

Or

Words are hard, so instead the Furin Trio find a way to say ‘I love you.’ without actually saying it.

Sakura doesn’t remember where he had learnt this saying, maybe it was something Nirei had told him when the boy was flipping through one of the books that he liked to read. Or maybe he heard it when Suo was making one of his weird anecdotes as they were walking home from school one day?

But it doesn’t really matter where he heard it, it was stupid anyway. How on earth could you love someone without knowing who they were?

Better yet, how could someone know Sakura, know him with his flaws and still love him?

It was an impossibility.

But now as a third year student, with graduation looming closer, Sakura comes to realise that his two vice captains know him very well. Perhaps too well even.

Something about how Snow always despised Doctor Gaul throughout The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes. and he had a great amount of discomfort with the experiments that she performed on animals to prove her theories right even if she wasn't getting the results she wanted. Only for Snow to turn around and do the exact same experiment with The Hunger Games, constantly trying to prove to himself and everyone that human nature is inherently violent and cruel. But he continually gets proven wrong again and again, because love always had a way of prevailing even when the tributes in the arena were at their worsts.

Something that I find so interesting in Yellowjackets, and something that I feel is an integral setup/foreshadowing is when Nat, Tai, Lottie and Shauna have their conversation in the pilot about Ally, the freshmen and how she's a liability. 'You want to freeze her out?' Shauna says. And this one line is so devastating in the long run. Jackie is who becomes the 'liability' to the group in the woods and the other girls do start to freeze Jackie out. Jackie is what the group sees as someone who gets in the way and creates more obstacles to them and in their eyes hinders their ability to survive. But there's also more to it than that. Teenage girls in particular are like a pack of wolves, they work in teams and they are unanimous of decisions. But if one person goes against the group, they are considered an outsider 'a lone wolf' who has no place in the pack. Jackie truly was the rabbit in the wolves den from day one. Because, unlike the other girls on the team, Jackie didn't condemn anyone nor does she ever ice someone out after what they do. She does Misty's makeup, and none of the other girls would have ever because they viewed Misty as crazy and unwanted. But Jackie does Misty's makeup anyway because to her Misty is just another girl out there with them. And that act of kindness alone would be enough for some of the girls to 'Freeze Her Out'. Jackie and her attempt to be alone with Travis is enough to Freeze her out to the others, even if they were going for the same thing! Because Jackie made the decision herself and did not seek validation from the others in that decision. Even during her argument with Shauna, Jackie cannot bring herself to be cruel to her even when Shauna is. Jackie had a right to be angry, a right to be mean and even a right to be a little cruel. But she wasn't. And that is ultimately what leads to the others 'Freezing her out' both literally and metaphorically. Because the girls believe that in order to survive they must be cruel and harsh, and Jackie can be neither of those things. Even when Jackie was facing her death, she wasn't cruel or vindicative to anyone, all of the girls were there at the end and telling Jackie that they loved her. Jackie ultimately was always going to find herself out in the cold alone, because she remained kind until the very end. The girls 'Freeze Her Out' because she is a reminder that they did not have to be cruel in order to survive.

Wind Breaker Ships And Yellowjackets Ships That Remind Me Of One Another

Spoilers For Yellowjackets And Windbreaker Manga!!!

LottieLee & SuoNirei:

Literally can not even explain how much these two remind me of one another. Nirei is so Laura Lee, a character that is used to represent light and faith during harsh times. Suo is so Lottie in the way that he would try to find a way to bring comfort to the group and to Nirei even if that meant having faith in something that he didn't understand. Suo and Nirei, just like LottieLee would hold hands when the plane was going down. Also if something were to happen to Nirei (Like my beautiful princess Laura Lee) he would be a guardian angel to the rest of them and gently guide them to the afterlife. Suo would also see Nirei in his final moments and even if Nirei tried to convince him to leave, he would so pull the line: 'I don't want to leave you yet." You could even say that Nirei getting hurt at Keel being a turning point for Suo, is the same as Laura Lee's death being a turning point for Lottie.

TaiVan & TsugeKiryu:

Oh where do I even begin? Two well-meaning characters who were close to one another before everything happened. But the longer they spend out in the woods, their bond is surely and slowly tested by the circumstances. Kiryu as Tai, who has always taken comfort in Tsugeura's optimism and strength during their hardest moments. Tsugeura would find comfort in Kiryu's ability to stay calm and collected when times get tough and his contribution to keeping everyone level-headed. However, after everything in the woods, they would break up to try and move on from everything that happened but would spend every day of their lives haunted by the fact that the two of them were the only ones that could understand on another.

TravNat & SakuSugi:

Enemies to lovers. Both have something that they want to prove to themselves and to others. Sugishita and Sakura would become the hunters of the group to try and provide for everyone, and they would bicker all the way through. But as time goes on they would grow closer to one another and develop an understanding between them that no one had ever had before. Also, Nat reminds me of Sakura so much it's not even funny (the hair, the sass, the way they both desperately try to hold onto the one thing that has ever made them feel safe.)

Coach Ben/Paul & UmeTsuba:

Umemiya while out in the woods is constantly thinking of Tsubaki, and regrets not spending more time with him or being there for him when Tsubaki asks. And like Coach Ben, he starts seeing Tsuabki and even pretends to have phone calls with him in order to try and keep himself sane. Tsuabaki on the other hand is constantly regretting not saying more, not demanding more as he waits everyday to hear news about Umemiya.

MistyNat & SugiNirei:

Hello Dork x Tough Person ship. While Nirei is nowhere near as insane as Misty is, he does share that desire to be needed and dorky tendencies. Sugishita would be annoyed by the dorkiness like Nat is. But like Nat would also seek Nirei out for advice and help because he understands that without someone with knowledge like that they would be utterly fucked. Nirei would also appreciate and be dvoted to Sugishita as a way of thanks for providing to everyone similarly to the way Misty is to Nat.

JackieShauna & SakuNirei:

Waiter! I'd like an order of co-dependent best friends who have a bond so much deeper than friendship but because of their own fears and society, they can never be defined as more! Sakura and Nirei, literally look at each other wishing that they were what the other was. Sakura wishes that he was as friendly and welcoming as Nirei was, and Nirei wishes that he was as strong and as needed as Sakura was by others. Their bond is inseparable but as they spend more time in the woods (just like Jackie and Shauna) resentment begins to build up between them and they eventually have a big blowout argument that leads to Nirei going outside. Because Nirei was always the one reaching out, just like Jackie was and he just wanted Sakura to come to him instead. Sakura doesn't go out and get Nirei because he thinks that if he goes outside all his worst fears will be confirmed that Nirei does not like him or want him around anymore. And ultimatley just like Jackie, Nirei is left out in the snow and Sakura will spend every second of the rest of his life thinking about him, mourning what was and what could've been.

Endo Yamato

My favorite relationship dynamic in fiction is a worshipper and their God. Not a literal God, but their God. The only thing in the whole world that matters to them. I was born to meet you and to love you. You are the only being I pray to. Your life isn’t just my passion, it’s my religion. You don’t think you’re anything special but you don’t see what I see. You don’t see that you’re the only person who’s ever made me feel this way. You don’t understand how beautiful you are to me and I will devote my entire life to making you understand and accept it.

I do think it would be good to have an arc that mixes a little bit of both though! And maybe an arc like that could come from revealing two certain characters' backstories (Suo and Sakura)!

Though I am personally very biased and would love to see an entire arc on Nirei!
