Circumstances mean Stede can’t say goodbye to his children the first time he leaves. Other than Ed, they are the only people for whom he openly expresses love.

So I find the ‘divorcing parents’ speech parody quite moving. Stede is empathetic. He understands the pain the crew must be feeling over the separation of their pseudo-parental figures. And even though Stede is in unfathomable pain, he tries to take care of the crew’s feelings publicly, only privately falling apart. It also means he understands how his children felt, waking to find him gone from their lives.

Which is why I’m glad Stede gets a do-over with Alma and Louis. He apologises to them that things haven’t worked out between their mother and him. He takes responsibility for the ‘mess’ he’s made. And even if they don’t fully understand everything now, they will remember their father’s time and kindness.

And when Alma says their mother was happier without him, Stede doesn’t character assassinate Mary, or talk of his own need for happiness too. He nods and says this:

There’s pain here. Stede knows he’s failed at traditional family life. He knows he’s hurt his wife and children. He might not love Mary as spouses should, but he no doubt loves and respects her as the mother of his children. It’s not Stede’s or Mary’s fault that they are living in a comphet society; and that they both have newfound loves doesn’t make the journey to this point any less painful.

Similarly, when Stede tells the crew Blackbeard and he will no longer be sailing together, he doesn’t cast anyone as the villain. He tries a little bit of face-saving contradiction and tautology - ‘it was a mutual decision which I initiated first’ - but he doesn’t blame Ed, and he doesn’t even single out Jack. He tells the crew (and himself) ‘Chin up, okay.’ Sometimes these things just happen. I will never understand any read of Stede as a selfish character. He is as flawed as any decent human, tunnel-visioned sometimes. But he is patient, kind, and empathetic on so many occasions, sometimes altruistic to his own detriment.

And I love when AU fic writers capture how good a father Stede is too. Because he is, he’s wonderful. He talks to the children on their own level without patronising them, and I adore modern iterations of Stede’s characterisation which allow further exploration of this.

What else can I say? Stede will always be the character of all time for me.

I’m basing this post off of me today, since I haven’t had anything solid to eat all day and it’s 6pm.

Bucky probably forgets to eat. With hydra feeding him with pills and liquids, he probably forgets. Unless his body is actively telling him that he’s hungry he’ll forget about it. Once Sam finds out what hydra did, he starts cooking more food since he knows that super soldiers have a higher metabolism then regular people. If Sam’s not around to remind Bucky to eat, he’ll go hours before putting something solid in him. It can be bad some days, especially when it’s a mission that can last days. Idk just something I thought about 😂

Gonna make the sambucky animation today 🥲 wish me luck

Just thinking about Bucky watching Hercules with AJ and Cass and when I won’t say I’m in love starts playing he looks at Sam. He thinks about how he fell in love with Steve and how he left him. How he relates to Meg and how he’s fallen in love with Sam. Even though he won’t say he’s in love. Everyone can see the way he looks at Sam, with his heart eyes and small smile on his lips. At least out loud he won’t say he’s in love.

It's so completely unique, and brimming with a colorful cast of characters with their own unique personalities and elements that they bring to the story, that it's no surprise that this show is as beloved as it is.

Fall Right Into Me: Snippet

This is a short snippet from my upcoming yuri SamBucky fic. Butch Bucky x femme Sam. It’s based off of Chappell Roan’s song: red wine supernova.

I won’t tell you much more about it other than there’s a lot of yearning…

“Holy sh—“

Bucky was at a loss for words—they were caught in her throat. The sight left her breathless and her cheeks rosy.

There, in the middle of their bedroom was Sam in a spaghetti strap mini red dress. It fitted her in all the right ways—showing off her curves and some of her best features. She had light makeup on—mascara that made her eyes pop. Sam was the definition of breathtaking even when she wasn’t trying. Even with nothing but a t-shirt and casual jeans on, Bucky couldn’t keep her eyes off of her. It left her drowning and gasping for air.

Sam was her air.

Bucky leaned against the doorframe of their bedroom with the biggest smile across her face.

“Are you going to keep gawking or are we going out?” Sam asked. Hands on her hips, she approached Bucky.

“Maybe I want to stay home and devour all of you, sweetheart,” Bucky replied.

Looping her arms along Bucky’s neck she softly sighed, “we’re going out. End of story. You owe me after you ate the rest of the bagel bites without me.”

Bucky snorted and rested her hands against her waist, “here we go again.”

Pushing her hand against Bucky’s chest, Sam rolled her eyes playfully. “Come on, we’re going to be late. It took you forever to get a reservation at this place. Let’s not waste it. I’m starving.” She pressed her lips against Bucky’s cheek.

“Can’t you eat me for dinner?” Bucky groaned playfully.

“Maybe another time,” Sam winked. She turned and walked to her vanity to grab her purse.

Bucky couldn’t help but gaze at her figure and the way her hair was styled. She stared with no shame—only a look of endearment. Bucky fell in love with her personality—how she rocked her hips with sass and confidence. The world was hers to rule and protect.

Tonight had to be perfect.

God she’s stunning and all mine…

The thing is, Bucky didn't "take" the Super Solider Serum. He was forced to take it under torture and torment--possibly the worst time in his life.

From the outside looking in, Sam saying Bucky took it while knowing what Bucky experienced, but in his pain and anguish not being/caring to distinguish the difference, seems off. But seeing Bucky immediate pivoting to comfort and reassure Sam is EVERYTHING.

Because Bucky didn't take the Serum. It was forced on him. And if anyone else said that to him, I think he'd lose it in a way Bucky does. But it's Sam, and he knows Sam means no harm. And in the space between them and their relationship, he understands the hidden meaning of Sam's words.

Bucky's reassurance to Sam is everything. Especially when it touches so close to his own personal trauma. He just wants to make sure Sam is okay.

Looking at Thunderbolts from Sam’s perspective makes me think that Sam probably felt like Bucky left him. Like willingly abandoned Sam because Bucky didn’t do anything when the team was announced. This is how I think one of their conversations went.

“Just tell me why.”

“Why what? That I can’t leave these people? That I need them? That I haven’t felt this good since Delacroix? That I feel like I actually belong?”

That makes Sam stop. His face goes stone cold but theres still that fire in his eyes that Bucky hates.

“What about me Bucky? I thought we were partners! But you’re leaving me like how Steve left!”

Bucky flinches at the mention of Steve, wanting to just curl up in a ball and get away from this conversation.

“He left both of us Sam. Not just you.”

“Yeah well I thought he would stick around. And I thought you would too. My bad right?” Sam lets out a humorless laugh, tears starting to stream down his face as he walks away.

What makes this worse is that they both feel alone again. Sure they have people around them that love them and care about them but they just wanted that one person. That one person to be on their side. Instead they’re alone.

Sambucky headcanons because it’s PRIDE MONTH!

1. Bucky is an old fashioned kinda guy. He gets dressed up, brings flowers, and pays for dates. He also says cheesy one liners like “doll, you must be a broom, cause you swept me off my feet.” Sam pretends that he hates the pickup lines but he swoons every time.

2. Sam cooks all the time. When he heard about Hydra feeding Bucky through a tube, he started cooking extras of everything. At first Bucky didn’t eat a lot but now he’s comfortable enough to where he goes for thirds because of his metabolism.

3. Bucky has a hard time telling people he loves them. To him, those three words are so important. He doesn’t say them to just anyone. But he also shows love through his actions. For example, fixing the boat with Sam. That’s how he showed that he loved Sam, and then actually said it a couple of years later.

4. Sam is gay and Bucky is bisexual. Sam was confused on why he didn’t like girls when he was a kid, more into boys than anything. When he joined the Air Force, he realized why. And he and Riley had a relationship before ultimately Riley died. Bucky is bi since he dated girls in the 40s, but what people don’t know is that he would make out with boys in alleyways and give them a BJ. It was a don’t ask don’t tell kinda deal.

5. Bucky didn’t know it was legal until Sam told him. Everyone makes the joke, does Bucky know it’s legal? And I don’t think he did, until he saw a gay couple walking hand in hand together. He asked Sam about it and Sam said, yeah they can do that…did you really not know? Ever since then, Bucky has been a little more open about his sexuality to the people he cares about.

6. Sam helps Bucky through nightmares. Bucky still gets nightmares but ever since him and Sam moved in together, they haven’t been there as often. When it does happen, Sam is usually the one to wake him up and remind him that he’s home and that he’s safe. Sam always asks if he can touch or hold him and the answer could go either ways.

7. Sam and Bucky were made for each other. I like the soulmate stuff and I absolutely believe that Sam and Bucky are soulmates. They fit so well together, knowing how to take care of each other, bantering, giving each other heart eyes when the other one isn’t looking, and protecting the other. They are in sync about everything and it doesn’t matter if Bucky is decades older then Sam, they were made for each other.

I rewatched Thunderbolts today and there are some Sambucky things I wish happened.

1. Buckys shame rooms, I know that marvel probably didn’t want to show them because we’ve seen a lot of Buckys past but I feel like we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.

2. Sam cameo. I would’ve loved to see Sam and Bucky living together in DC, or like a phone call from Sam. Just give me sambucky content PLEASE!

3. Alpine. Again would’ve loved to see Alpine in DC but whatever!

4. The end credit scene, Bucky was Sam’s number one supporter in TFAWS and now he’s not even defending him?? It was out of character and for me Bucky did defend him.

5. A SAMBUCKY PIC SOMEWHERE! I was legit looking for one in the background and I didn’t see anything so 😔

That’s all! I think Sam is in the right to be mad, and everyone who thinks otherwise should go rewatch civil war. Steve didn’t want the Avengers under government control so that’s why they fought. In Doomsday I hope that Sam gets the Thunderbolts out of the governments thumb and Bucky apologizes and then they make out and have a wedding.
