WANNA TALK ABOUT SELFIES?
Hi Everybody,
IT’S TIME!!! My name is Elise and I’m a grad student at UW-Madison. I’m looking for interview participants for my MA thesis all about selfies! I’m hoping to collect personal narratives and self-descriptions about your experiences with and thoughts on selfies (taking them, sharing them, posting them, seeing them) and to explore connections between selfies and community, identity, sexuality, and self-care.
Criteria: I’m especially hoping to interview people between the ages of 18 and 30 who either identify as women or whose identities don’t fit the gender binary. I will not ask any specific questions about your sexual practices or solicit any sexually explicit images. I will be collecting interview participants’ selfies (as they choose to share them!) but I’m not interested in explicit images, images of anyone other than you, images that involve illegal activities, or images you don’t want to share publicly.
If you do choose to participate I’ll walk you through an informed consent process before the interview and answer any questions you might have. You’re free to stop and withdraw from the study at any time. Nothing about the interview will be confidential. I will be asking you to share selfies and talk about yourself in relation to selfies. You should know that you will be identifiable in anything that I publish and/or present.
This is so close to my heart and I feel like I’ve been thinking about it and planning it forever and I’m super excited that this process is finally happening!

Last week, over 4 million people watched a man #racethetube from Mansion House to Cannon Street station. Props to the guy who did it. He managed to jump off a carriage at one station and ran to the next before jumping on to the same carriage before the doors closed. Interesting? Yes. Did we learn anything from it? Not so much.
Anthony, myself and a few of my anonymous helping community headed down to the circle line yesterday, cameras in hand, and shot Anthony’s own attempt to #racethetube…. in his wheelchair. Here’s how it went
During my time in the UK I probably asked dozens of people that I met how you were supposed to get anywhere in a wheelchair; I remarked pretty often how there were buildings everywhere with uneven steps, no railing, and no ramps. Most people I asked found it strange that I would even notice something like that, let alone think it was a problem.

i’m trying so hard to stay sane and calm with everything that’s happening in ferguson st. louis, mo but any time that i don’t spend at work is spent glued to update accounts, and tonight my best friend’s life was endangered as rioters looted her work place. i’m feeling more shaken every day. i’ve gotten vocal on facebook in support of the peaceful protesters only to have major backlash from extended family. i’m exhausted. all that i ask is that if you’re going to pay attention to this situation, stay away from big media stories and stay current. i see that no fly zone post on my dash a whole bunch, but the no fly zone has since been lifted—like, 8 hours ago. if you’re going to reblog news, it would be helpful to reblog new news that needs attention.
the people who are looting and starting fires are not supported by the community. many of the looters aren’t even from ferguson. there are a lot of good people who are trying to lead peaceful protests and stay awake at the same time—that “peace” not be conflated with “silence,” that a revolution can happen without even more harm coming to the community.

idk why i really made this post. just that if i’m not posting a lot or don’t seem happy in my tags rn this is why. i’m getting so frustrated with my friends & family who aren’t looking beyond mainstream media and who think that to support the protest means supporting the riots. that’s just… not true. i guess i just ask for prayers for justice, and prayers for the city, and prayers for this community.

I saw a red carpet interview with Megan Fox once, where the interviewer asked her how she “slimmed down” for some role and Megan Fox looked straight at her and just deadpanned, “I didn’t eat,” and then she waited just long enough for the interviewer to get so uncomfortable trying to come up with a perky, tv-appropriate response to that, and then she said in such a great dry bored fake voice, “Just kidding! Pilates.” Which is amazing because I can’t help but hope/wish/think that “pilates” is also a mocking answer, because claiming that pilates is the reason you have a perfect hawt bod is just such an obviously stupidly untrue Hollywood thing to say. And the interviewer was still kind of unnerved and she just said, “OH UM THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY?!” and then they cut away and anyway, that’s why I love Megan Fox.
