Je l'avais aimée éperdument! Pourquoi aime-t-on?
- Federico Garcia Lorca.

One, WHERE ARE YOUR STANDARDS
Two,
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll probably guess what I have to say about this flavor. A lot of more artificial flavors can be enhanced by adding a new element- and these fresh strawberry fruity bits are no exception. They make a common flavor (the standard pink strawberry) much more natural and interesting, to give me everything I wish the normal strawberry flavor is. Glico did us right with this upgrade ~

This week’s flavor is vanilla whipped cream! Although the concept is interesting, it just…does’t taste very good. Whipped cream is light and fluffy, which is hard to capture in a solid chocolate based coating. Like other white chocolate/vanilla flavors, this was too sweet and overall left a lot to be desired

Hmm... stale. If you let a pack of Oreos go stale, they become all soft and chewy and yes. I guess the same cannot be said for Pocky :(
After last week’s beverage-inspired flavor, we are moving on to milk tea pocky, covered with crushed almond pieces. This flavor was so exciting, but I wasn’t able to fully enjoy it, because I ordered it online only for it to arrive long past its expiration date. I tried it because I spent good money on these uncommon flavors, but it tasted off. Let this be a lesson! Most flavors come and go in cycles, and are pretty hard to find once they are gone. More unusual flavors offered online are likely quite old, from back when the flavor was in regular circulation.
Back to the review! I’m going to give the flavor the benefit of the doubt, because I love milk teas, and love flavors that introduce a crunchy element (ie, delicious almond bits). The cream was nice and bittersweet, with milky overtones that still made the box not too bad despite being stale. ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ( 3 / 5 ) - skewed due to being stale
This week brings you one of the many macha or green tea variations glico has put out. This special, extra fine macha with a macha biscuit stick is, well, not the best flavor for someone who doesn’t like macha (like me). That said, this richer flavor was more natural than the normal green tea flavor, which I find a little waxy tasting. I was apprehensive at first, but I think you really can taste the difference in quality that they are claiming on the box.

(only because I just don’t love macha, if you do like the flavor this will probably be 5 stars for you!)
But more chocolate is more!!
Happy Wednesday! This week is a slight twist on the classic flavor we all know and love- traditional pocky but this time with a bold, extra thick layer of chocolate. Now, I know there is thin pocky, so I guess this makes sense, but. I’m a chocolate-loving girl, and if I want more chocolate on my pocky, I’ll just reach for a box of their midi chocolate, which has a creamier chocolate and just goes all the way as far as extra coating goes. That leaves this box as an awkward in between that I don’t see myself ever craving in the future.

Got milk? This week we have a second attempt at dairy flavors- which, thankfully, is much better than the last. This summer-branded milk pocky is light, creamy, and not too cheesy. I was surprised to find myself finishing the box without even realizing it! Milk flavored candies and snacks are much less common in the US, and this is probably my favorite out of ones I have tried.

I will take it! I will take the rest of the pocky to mordor!
(Nom nom nom nom)
W for Wednesday! Continuing the series, we have a rich vanilla/white chocolate creme on a chocolate biscuit stick. I loved the aesthetic of the box, but this flavor was tooth-rotting sweet- in a way I did not enjoy. This is one of the flavors where I try one then try to pawn the rest off onto my friends so its not a waste…but, hopefully this will be the worst of the W series and they’ll only get better from now on!

It’s a wonderful Wednesday kicking off with another midi flavor- strawberry cheesecake! While not as life-changing as the rare cheesecake flavor, this sweet combination works really well with the midi’s generous amount of coating. The extra frosting (?) really allowed the berry and cheesecake flavors to come out together instead of one overpowering the other. Delicious! ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ ( 4 / 5 ) Want to try some of these for yourself? I’m doing a giveaway! You can find all the information here, but hurry, it’s ending soon!
What’s new, Wednesday? This week I’m introducing the smallest line of pocky boxes- Demitasse! These short sticks have a bitter coffee/chocolate, its name literally meaning a small cup of coffee. This particular flavor added mint into the mix which, while a fun idea, was a little overwhelming with the flavors that were already going on. The coffee was very powerful and did not mix well with the hint of mint, and ended up with an overpowering, poorly balanced taste.

Happy Wednesday- sorry I’m a little late! This week’s flavor is just peachy–
Peach pocky is a mild sweet flavor that isn’t particularly special nor particularly offensive. A lot of peach snacks have a not-super-concentrated taste, and like those snacks the flavoring here was very weak, but nice. I’m not quite sure if ‘dry’ is the right word, but it leaves something to be desired

Stay tuned for a post about my raffle: We made it, y’all! But- I wasn’t prepared to get here so quickly! This weekend I’ll get the boxes for the giveaway and will make the formal post then. I’m thinking I’ll be shipping unusual flavors to two lucky winners- maybe 3? We’ll see!
Oh how the mighty fall- we are experiencing both highs and lows in this month’s flavors. Unfortunately, the blueberry raspberry pocky tasted more like waxy cold medicine than berries. The fruity flavors are often very hit or miss. On a side note, this was one of the few flavors I ordered online. Usually I go to stores in person, but I decided to give it a try. All of the flavors were expired which probably didn’t make them taste any better, and the box was dented (as you can see in the scan) like someone had grabbed it carelessly. So! Let this be a lesson! Be careful when ordering food products online.

We’re switching it up this Wednesday, and am taking a break from our midi detour. The ‘excellent’ chocolate pocky is..a bit of a mystery. This limited edition flavor claims to be some sort of fancier (sophisticated?) dark chocolate coated with cocoa powder on a chocolate stick. (sounds very similar to a flavor I’ve yet to review here, but ok) This flavor was incredibly bitter, with the dark chocolate and powder not having much sweetness to balance them out. The cocoa powder also melts and makes an absolute mess very easily. Maybe if I was more of a dark chocolate fan I would have enjoyed it more, but alas.

Hmmmmm.... bran....
Banana….bran? Despite my skepticism, this is by far the best banana-related flavor I have tried so far! It tastes closer to banana bread than plain banana, which makes the palette a little more balanced. The biscuit stick is also grain based, which was an excellent touch. Another great flavor that isn’t too sweet!
