La vita bugiarda degli adulti, pubblicato da @edizioni_eo a novembre 2019 come un fulmine a ciel sereno, è l'ultima opera di narrativa di una delle più importanti narratrici contemporanee. Un'autrice in grado di tenere sul filo del rasoio chi legge manco stesse raccontando un thriller al cardiopalma.

È la storia, narrata in prima persona e a ritroso nel tempo, di Giovanna, 13enne partenopea, e del suo addio all'età infantile fatta di amore verso chi la circonda, familiari e amichette. Dal pronunciamento di una frase del proprio padre si aprirà una serie di reazioni a catena che la porteranno sia a fare luce su ogni zona d'ombra della propria famiglia che ad aprirsi verso le mille sfumature della città in cui vive, Napoli.

Io sono convinta che dobbiate sapere il meno possibile approcciandovi sia alla serie tv che, specialmente, al romanzo di Elena Ferrante. Non è tanto cosa si nasconde nelle sue pagine a spiegare la passione verso questa autrice, quanto la sua incredibile prosa e la sua capacità di dare un ritmo irresistibile al racconto del quotidiano. Lei racconta l'amarezza feroce e la gioia violenta di molteplici vite, di figure che chiunque di noi potrebbe incontrare lungo il corso della sua vita e il lettore è avvinghiato alle pagine come se stesse seguendo la complessa trama di un romanzo fantasy o noir.

Anche qui, l'abbandono di Giannì ad un'età e a delle figure idealizzate viene raccontato con dovizia di particolari, passaggi che riescono ad inquietare e a turbare e altri che emanano una bellezza irresistibile (soprattutto quando andremo alla scoperta di quelle radici familiari di cui qualcuno ha voluto dimenticarsi).
