This T shirt is very dear to me. It is a present from my unkle Radmilo, who is one of my favourite people on earth. And the anchor is the symbol of the neighbourhood I live in here in sunny London, Deptford. A symbol of the maritime hystory and identity of this vibrant slice of London Town where I choose to live and of my connection to my native land and beloved family.
James Cook, with Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander landed at Kurnell in the afternoon of April 29th 1770, in search of fresh water. In the next few days, excursions around the bay were undertaken and samples of native flora collected, which proved so plentiful that Cook named the area Botany Bay.
The State Library of New South Wales holds many items relating to this voyage of the Endeavour, including Joseph Banks Journal and a copy of James Cook’s Endeavour log.

In 1945, this ship was awarded to the Soviet Union as war compensation and renamed (dun dun dun...) SEDOV. It is now the largest operational tall ship in existence.

Pride of Baltimore II with everything set. Ringtail, topgallant, stuns’l, everything. I think I’m at the helm in this picture. It was a glorious day, though the wind had died and shifted a few minutes before.
